Bone Broth and Healthy Hair Connection
Man oh man, do people like to talk about bone broth. I’m one of them--a bone brothian. And, I know that back in the day peeps used to just call it “stock”. But you know what’s old is new again, and so on and so on. So, let’s get into it.
First things first, my story with “stock” goes a little something like this: About 5 years ago I wasn’t feeling so good, I had acne, stubborn weight, lethargy, and major hormonal imbalances like pms. I was researching ways to help myself with food and lifestyle changes and I came across a book that praised the magic of bone broth--The Prime by Dr Kulreet Chaudry. So I started using it like a supplement. One of its many uses is to heal the gut microbiome. And in all my studies I figured best to start there. It was hard to drink at first and I messed around with flavors and amounts but after a while it just became a habit. Fast forward 10 months, I’m feeling better, I’m getting ready for my wedding, I’m sitting in the chair getting my hair done, and my friend says to me that she doesn’t think she’s going to need my hair extensions to execute my style of choice. What??? What in all hell do you mean? She says my hair has gotten much thicker and doesn’t need the hair extensions and then asks me what I’ve been doing differently. She has known me for a very long time and has only known me to have very fine very thin hair that doesn’t do much of anything. I guess my bone broth protocol had some side effects that were unexpected and really amazing. Not only have some of my original cosmetic symptoms gone away, but I also have longer stronger thicker hair.
So this got me thinking about what is in bone broth--ollagen, tons of amino acids and many, many minerals that are great for us. We don’t get a lot of access to these things in our food these days. It’s basically a nutrient rich goldmine! It’s an excellent way to supplement and help with stubborn hair loss.
Here is the ONE thing that I strongly urge you to do: . Source your bones from an organic supplier. A quick perusing through the old interweb will give you an idea of where to get them. There are wonderful ways to source bones including farmers markets and local butcher shops. We want the bone from the animal we eat to be clean. Animals these days are not eating what you think they might be, and are exposed to just as many, if not more, chemicals as we are. Making sure you choose your meat wisely is super important. You can do serious damage to your body by not choosing the organic bones. If the animal has been exposed to genetically modified grains that they are not used to eating it gets into their body and is stored in, yep, you guessed it, their bones! We don’t want to eat that. No no no.
